DIOR COUTURE SPRING 07
I'm in love. I'm always in love with the Couture Collections Galliano masterminds. This season is a major departure in terms of theme from Fall's 06 Collection. What comes to mind is the obvious Japanese inspiration but there is so much more. So many images pop up while you porous the collection, words like: geisha, origami, Japanese water gardens, and Japanese woodblock art. There are also influences of vintage Dior circa 1947 The New Look, and hyper-feminine glam. It is the perfect juxtaposition to the Joan of Arc warriors of the Fall. All the costume drama is so classic Galliano. Naturally the collection reminded me of Memories of a Geisha, but how decadent and amazing would it be in an opera costumed by this collection and directed by Baz Luhrmann? A girl could wish..
"For anyone who first glimpsed Galliano’s raw, romantic genius 20 years ago, or witnessed the impact of his first, all-black Japanese collection done on a shoestring a decade ago, today's presentation recaptured everything that ever made him a force to be reckoned with. Was it anything new? No. But when Galliano does what he does this brilliantly, there’s no one who can touch him." sarah mower style.com
