Color stories

Celine

Burberry

Fall 06 Ready to Wear was like a dream come true for womens wear. The surprising palate highlights and "low-lights" belonged to Celine and Burberry Prorsum.
Ivana Omazic has been critiscised for her two seasons as the head of Celine. Her spring/summer was "too bright", and her fall/winter has "overexposed nude and black... not enough fur... where are the bags? An oversize duffel does not an accessories business make..." Say what they will, it is sometimes a good thing for a designer to go astray of the crowd. I am and never will be a HUGE fan of fur. But I am not a hypocrite either, and a small amount of fur is still okay by me. Black and nude overexposed? Since when are they considered over exposed? To me they are the timeless crutches a woman uses as her ammunition against the bright and shining glitz of the social butterflies. And as for the bags... I can't argue with the critics there. celine started out as a well-known hand bag brand. There were critics on her use of "breezy chiffon", but I have to point out that not EVERYONE lives in New York where you get WEATHER. And most often when the fall lines come out, there isn't much to choose from in flirty dresses.

Christopher Bailey fall 2006 hit a home run with his classic and playful, casual and dressy, young and grown-up fall line. Lace, thin spike studded belts, and knit caps complimented classics redone by Bailey's young take on the Burberry brand. His use of color is what really did it for me. Dark mahogany leather with blue-violet knit and navy. His mens wear was even more amazing than his womens wear. It did feel, in comparison, that his womens wear was done with the mens wear left overs. Chris Bailey explained it as,"that sloppy way of wearing things only young British girls have. Sloppy is good." You decide, Men's Burberry. Women's Burberry.
