Westwood again and again
Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood may be a bit of a blow hard, but I've never had issue with her cloths. Quite the contrary, she is a maverick, a genius, and a true legend. Here inn the Spring 2007 RTW collection she dislpays her mainpulation of drape, color, and shilouette which are so uniquely Westewood that they can be recognized and 100 paces, and saying that, remain fresh and exciting.
PARIS, October 3, 2006 – Vivienne Westwood isn't about to relinquish her role as English fashion's resident provocateur. If today's graffiti print combining "Free Leonard Peltier" and "I am expensiv" (sic) scribbles raises a few eyebrows, so be it. (Ditto for the doodles of the male anatomy that she used for a cape and a sheath.) And if the collection—which ranged from a black skirt suit, draped and tucked at oddly graceful angles, to a remarkably simple, subtly bejeweled blue-velvet bustier dress—wasn't a huge step forward, well, that's not really why people keep coming back.- Style.com, Nicole Phelps for RTW Spring 2007.
Comparing Westwood's Spring and Fall collection can best sum up her year of design adn how much the contributed to the success of this 20006/2007 year. (click here for video coverage of Westwoods's Spring Collection courtesy of Elle.com)
PARIS, February 28, 2006 – Vivienne Westwood was made a Dame of the British Empire last month by Queen Elizabeth II, and she's one of just a handful of designers due to be fĂȘted at the upcoming AngloMania exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute, but she hasn't given up on her trademark brand of rebellious dishabille. Tartans, bustiers, toga wrapping, and Edwardian pannier skirts—all essential elements of the Westwood vocabulary—came fast and furious down her wooden-plank catwalk on models with glossy red lips and tousled upswept hair. The layered-up looks had a disheveled, madcap appeal in which Westwood, who took to the runway with her tiny rhinestone horns firmly in place, clearly revels.- Style.com, Nicole Phelps on Westwood's Fall 2006 RTW.
Personally I am gravitating to Westwood's Fall 06 Collection, so I say it's the winner.
